Vinyl Obscurities - the Fontana label
My Vinyl Obscurities this time are from the UK Fontana label, which issued a wide variety of pop, folk, soul and blues 45s from the time of its launch by Philips in the late 50s through to the early 70s. As well as UK hits by the likes of the Mindbenders, the Troggs and Manfred Mann there were some interesting US releases, as at various times Fontana issued records from the Tamla Motown, Veejay, Vanguard, Okeh and Mirwood labels among others. The following 10 releases are a mixture of US and UK recordings, all of them interesting in their way. Check out the Youtube links for each one.
1. Roy Young - Big Fat Mama/ Just Keep It Up. Released in 1959 on Fontana H200. Mint value - £25,
Roy Young is, of course, still rocking his way through the Little Richard songbook on a regular basis and remains a dynamic performer over 50 years on. He made his name on the Oh Boy and Drumbeat shows and this is his first UK single. Big Fat Mama is a wild self penned rocker and was written in honour of his mum, or so he told the 2Is show audience a year or so back. 2. James Brown & Famous Flames - This Old Heart/ Wonder When You're Coming Home. Released in 1960 on Fontana H273. Mint value - £30.
This was the second UK 45 by the king of funk and comes from the period when Fontana occasionally issued records from King/Federal. This Old Heart is a pretty good mid tempo swinger but attracted little interest at the time, while the B side has a bluesy flavour to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T207_41WE98
3. Roy Hamilton - You Can Have Her/ Abide With Me. Released in 1961 on Fontana H298. Mint value - £15.
Roy Hamilton is a Northern soul legend with the 1964 MGM 45 The Panic Is On going for big money. His later recordings such as The Dark End of the Street show just how soulful he could be and his death in 1969 cut his career short, but this record is more typical of his earlier more middle of the road smooth voiced R and B and pop material on Epic and was his last substantial US hit. 4. Marie Knight - Come Tomorrow/ Nothing. Released in 1961 on Fontana H354. Mint value - £20.
Marie Knight was a major gospel star from the 1940s, when she teamed up with Sister Rosetta Tharpe, until her death aged 84 in 2009. As late as 2002 she recorded a tribute album to Tharpe and her gospel back catalogue runs into hundreds of tracks. 5. Marvelettes - Please Mr Postman/ So Long Baby. Released in 1961 on Fontana H355. Mint value - £50.
Fontana issued a mere four Motown 45s before passing the baton to Oriole and Please Mr Postman is by far the best known because of the Beatles cover of the song on the With The Beatles LP. This was the first single by the Marvelettes and a personal favourite. Songwriting credits have varied over the years but this original version attributes it to Marvelette Georgia Dobbins, her friend George Garrett and 'Brianbert' (Brian Holland and Robert Bateman). 6. The High Numbers - Zoot Suit/ I'm The Face. Released in 1964 on Fontana TF480. Mint value - £600.
I had to include this one as it's the most valuable 45 in my collection and was bought at a car boot sale a few years ago for a mere 20p. Definitely my lucky day! The High Numbers were of course an early incarnation of The Who, who recorded this one single aimed at the mods of the day. I was one of their number and rode my Lambretta to Hastings and Brighton for the mod/rocker Bank Holiday confrontations of that year (I didn't see many rockers there but it was good fun). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-INQ63rnpLQ
7. The Anglos - Incense/ You're Foolin' Me. Released in 1965 on Fontana TF589. Mint value - £25.
Just who were the Anglos? No one seems to know for sure. It's an extremely soulful American sounding 45 which has been linked to Steve Winwood, but I'm pretty sure this is a US original and there have been numerous online discussions trying to pin it down. Best guess seems to be that it was issued originally on the US Orbit label and came out in the UK on the short lived Brit label, before being reissued shortly afterwards on Fontana, and later on Island. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uObuFeLN5-I
8. Jackie Lee - The Duck/ Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide. Released in 1965 on Fontana TF646. Mint value - £40.
This is another Northern soul favourite with a secret, as Jackie Lee was in fact Earl Nelson, one half of Bob and Earl who made it big with Harlem Shuffle. Jackie was apparently Nelson's wife's name and Lee his middle name. 9. The Olympics - We Go Together/ Secret Agents. Released in 1966 on Fontana TF678. Mint value - £30.
Yet another Northern favourite by a group who started life in 1957 as a doowop band who had a smash hit with Western Movies. Follow ups were equally good rock and roll numbers, including Private Eye, I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate and Little Pedro, and they enjoyed a second lease of life in the 60s with more soul orientated dance numbers such as The Bounce, Baby Do The Philly Dog and We Go Together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw2ypXnTo1w
10. Lowell Fulsom - Tramp/ Pico. Released in 1966 on TF795. Mint value - £35.
One of the leading West Coast bluesmen, Fulsom recorded many great blues records from the 1940s through to the 90s, including Three O'Clock Blues, Every Day I Have The Blues and Reconsider Baby. But Tramp, co-written with Jimmy McCracklin and recorded for Kent, became a soul classic, breeding excellent covers by Otis and Carla and Joe Tex (Papa Was Too). The True Power of Water
Pernahkah Anda membayangkan bahwa air pun dapat 'berbicara' dan 'mendengar'? Hasil penelitian Dr Masaru Emoto dari Universitas Yokohama Jepang di bawah ini akan menunjukkan jawabannya. Ternyata air dapat mendengar dan molekulnya berubah-ubah bentuk sesuai dengan apa yang diperdengarkan kepadanya .
Dalam sebuah bukunya yang bertitel “True Power of Water” Dr Masaru Emoto memperlihatkan, bagaimana ajaibnya air merespon suara dan gelombang di sekitarnya. Betapa air itu bisa membentuk kristal yang berbeda dengan perlakuan gelombang yang berbeda, bahkan hanya dengan tulisan saja. Seolah-olah air bisa diajak berkomunikasi.
Berdasarkan pnelitian Masaro, bila air di ekspos dengan musik rock metal, air akan gagal membentuk kristal yang cantik. Namun, jika air diberikan alunan nada yang lembut atau ucapan terimakasih dan penghargaan, maka dia bisa membentuk kristal yang indah.
Dalam penelitiannya, Masaru yang tekun melakukan penelitian tentang perilaku air itu mendo'akan air murni dari mata air di Pulau Honshu secara agama Shinto, lalu didinginkan sampai -5oC di laboratorium. Setelah itu dia memfotonya dengan kamera mikroskop elektron berkecepatan tinggi.
Ternyata molekul air membentuk kristal segi enam yang indah. Percobaan diulangi lagi dengan membacakan kata, “Arigato (terima kasih dalam bahasa Jepang)” di depan botol air tadi. Kristal kembali membentuk sangat indah. Lalu dicoba dengan menghadapkan tulisan huruf Jepang, “Arigato”. Kristal membentuk dengan keindahan yang sama. Sewaktu ditunjukkan kata “setan”, kristal berbentuk buruk. Begitupun saat diputarkan musik Symphony Mozart, kristal muncul berbentuk bunga. Dan saat diperdengarkan musik heavy metal, kristalpun hancur.
Ketika 500 orang berkonsentrasi memusatkan pesan “peace” di depan sebotol air, kristal air tadi mengembang bercabang-cabang dengan indahnya. Dan ketika dicoba dibacakan doa Islam, kristal bersegi enam dengan lima cabang daun muncul berkilauan.

6.Saat diungkapkan ‘war’, kpd kristal air (sebelah kiri), maka bentuk kristal ‘peace’ (kanan) tertabrak oleh benda mirip pswt (WTC pd 9 Sept). Gb direkam sblm kejadian.
7.Selanjutnya ditunjukkan kata ”malaikat” : terbentuk rantai dg kristal hexagonal yg indah (gambar kiri) dan ketika ditunjukan kata “setan”, kristal berbentuk buruk dg bola api ditengah (gambar kanan).
8.Kristal air yang direkam dari mata air yg masih jernih di Jepang.
Dr. Emoto akhirnya berkeliling dunia melakukan percobaan dengan air di Swiss, Berlin, Prancis, Palestina, dan ia kemudian diundang ke Markas Besar PBB di New York untuk mempresentasikan temuannya pada bulan Maret 2005 lalu. Ternyata air bisa “mendengar” kata-kata, bisa “membaca” tulisan, dan bisa “mengerti” pesan.
Dalam bukunya The Hidden Message in Water, Dr. Masaru Emoto menguraikan bahwa air bersifat bisa merekam pesan, seperti pita magnetik atau compact disk. Semakin kuat konsentrasi pemberi pesan, semakin dalam pesan tercetak di air. Air bisa mentransfer pesan tadi melalui molekul air yang lain. Barangkali temuan ini bisa menjelaskan, kenapa air putih yang didoakan bisa menyembuhkan si sakit. Dulu ini kita anggap musyrik, atau paling sedikit kita anggap sekadar sugesti, tetapi ternyata molekul air itu menangkap pesan doa kesembuhan, menyimpannya, lalu vibrasinya merambat kepada molekul air lain yang ada di tubuh si sakit. Tubuh manusia memang 75% terdiri atas air. Otak 74,5% air. Darah 82% air. Tulang yang keras pun mengandung 22% air.
Air putih galon di rumah, bisa setiap hari didoakan dengan khusyu kepada Allah, agar anak yang meminumnya saleh, sehat, dan cerdas, dan agar suami yang meminum tetap setia. Air tadi akan berproses di tubuh meneruskan pesan kepada air di otak dan pembuluh darah. Dengan izin Allah, pesan tadi akan dilaksanakan tubuh tanpa kita sadari.
Bila air minum di suatu kota didoakan dengan serius untuk kesalehan, insya Allah semua penduduk yang meminumnya akan menjadi baik dan tidak beringas. Rasulullah saw. bersabda, “Zamzam lima syuriba lahu”, “Air zamzam akan melaksanakan pesan dan niat yang meminumnya”. Barangsiapa minum supaya kenyang, dia akan kenyang. Barangsiapa minum untuk menyembuhkan sakit, dia akan sembuh. Subhanallah . Pantaslah air zamzam begitu berkhasiat karena dia menyimpan pesan doa jutaan manusia selama ribuan tahun sejak Nabi Ibrahim a.s.
Bila kita renungkan berpuluh ayat Al Quran tentang air, kita akan tersentak bahwa Allah rupanya selalu menarik perhatian kita kepada air. Bahwa air tidak sekadar benda mati. Dia menyimpan kekuatan, daya rekam, daya penyembuh, dan sifat-sifat aneh lagi yang menunggu disingkap manusia. Islam adalah agama yang paling melekat dengan air. Shalat wajib perlu air wudlu 5 kali sehari. Habis bercampur, suami istri wajib mandi. Mati pun wajib dimandikan. Tidak ada agama lain yang menyuruh memandikan jenazah, malahan ada yang dibakar. Tetapi kita belum melakukan zikir air. Kita masih perlakukan air tanpa respek. Kita buang secara mubazir, bahkan kita cemari. Astaghfirullah.

Ternyata air bisa “mendengar” kata-kata, bisa “membaca” tulisan, dan bisa “mengerti” pesan.
Dalam bukunya The Hidden Message in Water, Dr. Masaru Emoto menguraikan bahwa air bersifat bisa merekam pesan, seperti pita magnetik atau compact disk. Semakin kuat konsentrasi pemberi pesan, semakin dalam pesan tercetak di air. Air bisa mentransfer pesan tadi melalui molekul air yang lain. Barangkali temuan ini bisa menjelaskan, kenapa air putih yang didoakan bisa menyembuhkan si sakit. Dulu ini kita anggap musyrik, atau paling sedikit kita anggap sekadar sugesti, tetapi ternyata molekul air itu menangkap pesan doa kesembuhan, menyimpannya, lalu vibrasinya merambat kepada molekul air lain yang ada di tubuh si sakit. Tubuh manusia memang 75% terdiri atas air. Otak 74,5% air. Darah 82% air. Tulang yang keras pun mengandung 22% air.
Air putih galon di rumah, bisa setiap hari didoakan dengan khusyu kepada Allah, agar anak yang meminumnya saleh, sehat, dan cerdas, dan agar suami yang meminum tetap setia. Air tadi akan berproses di tubuh meneruskan pesan kepada air di otak dan pembuluh darah. Dengan izin Allah, pesan tadi akan dilaksanakan tubuh tanpa kita sadari.
Bila air minum di suatu kota didoakan dengan serius untuk kesalehan, insya Allah semua penduduk yang meminumnya akan menjadi baik dan tidak beringas. Rasulullah saw. bersabda, “Zamzam lima syuriba lahu”, “Air zamzam akan melaksanakan pesan dan niat yang meminumnya”. Barangsiapa minum supaya kenyang, dia akan kenyang. Barangsiapa minum untuk menyembuhkan sakit, dia akan sembuh. Subhanallah . Pantaslah air zamzam begitu berkhasiat karena dia menyimpan pesan doa jutaan manusia selama ribuan tahun sejak Nabi Ibrahim a.s.
Bila kita renungkan berpuluh ayat Al Quran tentang air, kita akan tersentak bahwa Allah rupanya selalu menarik perhatian kita kepada air. Bahwa air tidak sekadar benda mati. Dia menyimpan kekuatan, daya rekam, daya penyembuh, dan sifat-sifat aneh lagi yang menunggu disingkap manusia. Islam adalah agama yang paling melekat dengan air. Shalat wajib perlu air wudlu 5 kali sehari. Habis bercampur, suami istri wajib mandi. Mati pun wajib dimandikan. Tidak ada agama lain yang menyuruh memandikan jenazah, malahan ada yang dibakar. Tetapi kita belum melakukan zikir air. Kita masih perlakukan air tanpa respek. Kita buang secara mubazir, bahkan kita cemari. Astaghfirullah.
Seorang ilmuwan Jepang telah merintis. Ilmuwan muslim harus melanjutkan kajian kehidupan ini berdasarkan Al Quran dan hadits.

Nama lain dari Software adalah perangkat lunak. Seperti nama lainnya itu, yaitu perangkat lunak, sifatnya pun berbeda dengan hardware atau perangkat keras, jika perangkat keras adalah komponen yang nyata yang dapat diliat dan disentuh oleh manusia, maka software atau Perangkat lunak tidak dapat disentuh dan dilihat secara fisik, software memang tidak tampak secara fisik dan tidak berwujud benda tapi bisa di operasikan.
Pengertian Software komputer adalah sekumpulan data elektronik yang disimpan dan diatur oleh komputer, data elektronik yang disimpan oleh komputer itu dapat berupa program atau instruksi yang akan menjalankan suatu perintah. Melalui sofware atau perangkat lunak inilah suatu komputer dapat menjalankan suatu perintah
Software atau perangkat lunak komputer berdasarkan distribusinya dibedakan menjadi beberapa macam, yaitu software berbayar, software gratis atau free ( Freeware, free software, shareware, adware) .
Software berbayar merupakan perangkat lunak yang didistribusikan untuk tujuan komersil, setiap pengguna yang ingin menggunakan atau mendapatkan software tersebut dengan cara membeli atau membayar pada pihak yang mendistribusikannya. pengguna yang menggunakan software berbayar umumnya tidak diijinkan untuk menyebarluaskan software tersebut secara bebas tanpa ijin ada penerbitnya. contoh software berbayar ini misalnya adalah sistem microsoft windows, microsoft office, adobe photo shop, dan lain-lain.
Freeware atau perangkat lunak gratis adalah perangkat lunak komputer berhak cipta yang gratis digunakan tanpa batasan waktu, berbeda dari shareware yang mewajibkan penggunanya membayar (misalnya setelah jangka waktu percobaan tertentu atau untuk memperoleh fungsi tambahan). Para pengembang perangkat gratis seringkali membuat perangkat gratis freeware “untuk disumbangkan kepada komunitas”, namun juga tetap ingin mempertahankan hak mereka sebagai pengembang dan memiliki kontrol terhadap pengembangan selanjutnya. Freeware juga didefinisikan sebagai program apapun yang didistribusikan gratis, tanpa biaya tambahan. Sebuah contoh utama adalah suite browser dan mail client dan Mozilla News, juga didistribusikan di bawah GPL (Free Software).
Free Software lebih mengarah kepada bebas penggunaan tetapi tidak harus gratis. Pada kenyataannya, namanya adalah karena bebas untuk mencoba perangkat lunak sumber terbuka (Open Source) dan di sanalah letak inti dari kebebasan: program-program di bawah GPL, sekali diperoleh dapat digunakan, disalin, dimodifikasi dan didistribusikan secara bebas. Jadi free software tidak mengarah kepada gratis pembelian tetapi penggunaan dan distribusi. Begitu keluar dari lisensi kita dapat menemukan berbagai cara untuk mendistribusikan perangkat lunak, termasuk freeware, shareware atau Adware. Klasifikasi ini mempengaruhi cara di mana program dipasarkan, dan independen dari lisensi perangkat lunak mana mereka berasal.
Perbedaan yang nyata antara Free Software dan Freeware. Konflik muncul dalam arti kata free dalam bahasa Inggris, yang berarti keduanya bebas dan gratis. Oleh karena itu, dan seperti yang disebutkan sebelumnya, Free Software tidak perlu bebas, sama seperti Freeware tidak harus gratis.
Shareware juga bebas tetapi lebih dibatasi untuk waktu tertentu. Shareware adalah program terbatas didistribusikan baik sebagai demonstrasi atau versi evaluasi dengan fitur atau fungsi yang terbatas atau dengan menggunakan batas waktu yang ditetapkan (misalnya 30 hari) . Dengan demikian, memberikan pengguna kesempatan untuk menguji produk sebelum membeli dan kemudian membeli versi lengkap dari program. Sebuah contoh yang sangat jelas dari tipe ini adalah perangkat lunak antivirus, perusahaan-perusahaan ini biasanya memudahkan pelepasan produk evaluasi yang hanya berlaku untuk jumlah hari tertentu. Setelah melewati maksimum, program akan berhenti bekerja dan Anda perlu membeli produk jika Anda ingin tetap menggunakannya.
Kita juga dapat menemukan perangkat lunak bebas sepenuhnya, namun termasuk dalam program periklanan, distribusi jenis ini disebut Adware. Sebuah contoh yang jelas adalah program Messenger dari Microsoft yang memungkinkan penggunaan perangkat lunak bebas dalam pertukaran untuk masuk dengan cara iklan banner atau pop-up.
